Janice Landreth, 89, of Hecla, SD, passed away September 5, 2013, at Avera St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen, SD.
Janice Lois was born in Hecla on October 8, 1923 to Carl and Florence (Godfrey) Clark. Janice has spent her entire life in Hecla. She married Roe Landreth on October 11, 1942, and together they had four children, Lynda, Carla, Robert, and Charles. Roe and Janice farmed and ranched in the Hecla area until 1970, when they moved into Hecla. Roe passed away on November 15, 1992. Janice was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hecla. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Janice enjoyed cooking and baking, and loved sharing her goodies with family and friends, and she especially loved dog sitting Sophie.
She is survived by three children, Lynda (Fenton) Smallwood, Anaheim, CA, Carla Landreth and Robert (JoAnn) Landreth all of Hecla; four grandchildren, Brent (Becky) Bogardus, Cory (Lynne) Bogardus, Stacey (Terry) Fischbach, and Suzanne (Frank) Birch; ten great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Tom Landreth; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Engle. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, Charles, her sister, Ila Payne, and a son-in-law, Ken Bogardus.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 5:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Hecla. Her funeral will be Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Hecla City Cemetery.
